The new Oil States central Scotland “Heartlands” development is an impressive, 27-acre, purpose-built site with state-of-the-art facilities which opened in 2017.
Project brief and partnership
Oil States were looking to partner with an industry expert who understood and provided British Standard Safety Compliant control systems for emergency and lighting products.
The brief was to install an emergency lighting control system and luminaires that would support employees and site visitors in the event of an emergency. To find a solution that would illuminate a path to safety through heavy duty equipment and hazardous materials in this multi-complex site with ceilings over 10 metres in height.
To find a partner that provided a dedicated point of contact to work closely with the small on-site facilities team. To train a team who could easily, and with confidence, monitor the system located across multiple sites from one platform; determining which areas/luminaires should be maintained or switch maintained; identifying any luminaire defects and resolving these immediately.
‘Heartlands’ is an award-worthy, architecturally designed building so the final part of the brief was to provide a solution that did not compromise the aesthetics of this state-of-the-art facility.
ALOG 216V AC/DC Central Battery System
Hostwave achieved the brief by recommending an ALOG 216V AC/DC central battery unit (CBU).
Designed with a KOMBI computer, this unit incorporates an automatic testing system to enable both maintained and non-maintained luminaires on a single circuit with fire-protected cables suitable for hazardous areas.
The 216V AC/DC central battery unit provides 100% electrical output for mains lighting and in case of an emergency whilst requiring smaller installation cables than many lower voltage systems.
Mains luminaires were converted into combined emergency luminaires by installing ALOG modules within the body of the luminaire.
The ALOG software package can centrally programme, monitor and control each luminaire ensuring accuracy, speed and confidence in detecting luminaire defects, mains circuit defects and emergency situations.
We also provided a wireless lighting control system with over 200no - HD400 LED Floodlights and Acciaio luminaires controlled by 2 control units. This provided full lighting control without the expense of more cablings and installation time.
